Loneliness as a Feminist Issue: How Loneliness Is Not Just Personal But Also Political

June 18, 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

FEMINISM & DEVELOPMENT CLUSTER PRESENTS

Research Sharing Session with Silfana Nasri. The Speaker will share some insights from her research under the title ‘Loneliness as a Feminist Issue: How Loneliness Is Not Just Personal But Also Political’

Abstract:
Loneliness is commonly perceived as an individual experience, but its roots run deeper. While loneliness affects people of all genders, women are particularly vulnerable to its grip due to the intersection of various social factors.

The discussion will delve into the systemic factors that contribute to women’s loneliness, including societal expectations, gender roles, culture, and politics. We will explore how those intersections often place unrealistic burdens, leading to disconnection, feelings of inadequacy, and loneliness.
