The biopolitical operations of neoliberalism have produced the self as the “subject of interest” through affective registers and psyche. Media have become central to the operations of neoliberalism in private, commercial, and public life. Therefore, media scholars have to take the case seriously to understand how people feel and survive in the operations of neoliberalism. We will discuss how Gill & Kanai (2018) argue that the confidence cult, the relatable self, and hollow defiance growing in media have been the registers in neoliberal subjectivities.
